The Crescent Mortehoe

2010

Perched on top of an Exmoor outcrop the North Devon coastal village of Mortehoe is exposed to the punishing Atlantic sea weather necessitating a robust approach to weathering details and expert management of high humidity levels.

The large Victorian terrace house in the heart of the village was remodelled and converted into 2 seaside. The village is in a conservation area surrounded by National Trust farmland and close to surfing beaches at nearby Woolacombe. The front elevation of the terrace was retained and restored whilst the rear elevation was reorganised to include a south-facing roof terrace and large new windows to maximise views and daylight. Roof mounted solar panels provide water preheating. Both houses have been completely modernised internally.
